Grateful for both the small and big
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realise they were the big things.
Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.” – Buddha
It is the end of another week and my question to you is what are you grateful for?
You might have started the week with a long to-do list and you might have accomplished all, some or almost all on this list. Heck you might not even have completed one yet but you know what, it’s not only the big wins that need recognition. Most importantly it is you showing up everyday for yourself and that is something to be proud of and thankful for.
Remember the intanginble
I remember looking back on my list of goals for last year at the beginning of this year and I realised I didn’t have many physical evidence of achieving them. I was a bit disappointed but then I realised aside from the long list of things I wanted to achieve physically was that very important goal of enrolling into a year long mentoring programme which I have successfully completed.
How could I have forgotten about that? Just because the achievements are not tangible or physical enough for me to touch meant that I wasn’t appreciating them as I would have done buying a house or something else. However, over the course of the year I could see the small changes happening, the mindset and attitude shifts etc. Yes, these are achievements that are I can’t touch but will forever be with me even on the days I don’t physically work at anything.
Not always the big stuff
So many challenges because different paradigms and beliefs were being changed and replaced and through it all I never stopped thinking this is too hard or crawl back to my comfort zone. Persisting through it all was an achievement on its own and the small changes have all contributed to my major transformation and I am eternally grateful for both the small and the big. This was not part of the original goals list but became the major achievement of the year.
Acknowledge the detours
Life often gets in the way of what we planned for a productive day or week and we turn to be hard on ourselves but I have learnt that obstacles are part of ones journey. Most of the time these are nudges for us to reevaluate, recalibrate and realign and that is ok because it is not just the destination that matters but the journey.
This is where the learning and growing is, not only when we can shout a big YES but very importantly as well, when we can nod or smile at accomplishing a task we have been struggling with.
It all comes to being grateful
So let’s acknowledge both the big and small wins, the obstacles that put us on a different path and the opportunities that we got or missed, and end the week with a thankful heart knowing tomorrow is a new day and opportunity to keep going. Now what are you grateful for? Do leave a comment Inas I would love for your to share what you are genuinely grateful for.
Affirmation
