Grateful for experiences
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realise they were the big things. —Robert Brault
In a conversation with my sister the other day we came to talk about our stay outside of Denmark for almost a decade now, and whilst we reminisced I could not help but wonder how far we both had come. Unknowingly, through both the little and big changes that had gone on in our lives. Unknowingly, because it was through her that I got the courage to move and also that we will be close enough to support each other.
When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around. —Willie Nelson
The decision alone was a huge one, to move and start all over again in a different country and we did because at that time it felt right even though we had no idea what it would lead to. As we made England our new home things started moving in the right direction but we had a lot of adjustments to make. These didn’t come without it’s challenges but we tackled them, pushed through and made it a very comfortable life for us.
My story
It was here in England that I rose from the ranks of Marketing Coordinator to Marketing senior Specialist to Manager, then to being a transformational life coach. None of these happened overnight and so as I reflect, I acknowledge the quote above for I didn’t always enjoy the place I was at in this journey. For my eyes were set on the bigger goal always and when I got there I had forgotten about all the little events that had to happen to get there. For the time I was a marketing coordinator, all I wished for was to be the Senior Specialist and when I got there I couldn’t wait to be the Marketing Manager either.
As humans we are always striving for something more and it’s a good thing for we will otherwise stop growing and developing and that is exactly how I am as well. Today as I write this I am more than grateful for all that I have experienced and achieved so far. In that conversation I took the time to acknowledge all the different experiences that built my character, resilience and way of life for it was all the little steps I took and the little wins I experienced on a day to day basis. There were a lot of the smaller experiences and wins but these have indeed built the foundation of all that I once desired and I am living.
Your story
I am not sure where you are right now in your journey but remember that every time you show up for that dream, you experience that hint of kindness or even take the smallest action on a task it is reason to be joyous for you are an experience richer. I know things might not move at the pace we want or in the timing we want but they are moving as long as you take action; and remember to enjoy and take delight in what you experience. For if we have our eyes only set on the big aha moment, all those small meaningful moments that lead up to the big one will pass as by. So I want to encourage you to show as much appreciation for the little wins as well for these are what compound to the big win. Share your thoughts as I would live to hear what one thing would you acknowledge right now that is contributing to something big that you are waiting on.
AFFIRMATION:
I will take time today to count my blessings - big and small.
