It is the start of the year and many of us may be wanting to start new habits. One habit that has been a constant in my life for well over a decade and seen me through many challenges is being grateful in both the big and small.
The change
You will agree that the last couple of years have been quite challenging but we had also been blessed to find many other good things amidst the challenges. A time that has pulled the breaks on our fast paced lives, thrown us chill pills and literally made each and everyone of us go through some form of mental reassessment.
But through all of this we’ve made it this far and if you are reading this then I do believe that you like me have a reason to be grateful.
The Practice
I am not sure how acquainted you are with a gratitude practice or how far you are in your journey but I also know that sometimes you can hit a road block and literally have nothing to be grateful for or so it seems. But there is always something to be grateful for and if you have made it through the first week of the year and still don’t know what to be grateful for here are a few of mine:
Grateful for the fact that we are here.
Grateful for the fact that we are in good health
Grateful for the fact that we can move, blink, laugh and scratch an itch.
Grateful for the fact that we still have heat and shelter.
Grateful for the fact that we can enjoy meals 3 times a day and even more.
Grateful for the fact that you are able to read this.
Grateful for the fact that you can feel the seasons and temperatures changing, see leaves falling and hear the raindrops.
Grateful for the peace and serenity I feel as I look at the lake.
So with this in mind I want say I am grateful to you for taking the time to read this and I hope you get into the weekend with a thankful heart knowing that we have made it through the first week of the year 2023. I would love to know how you are practicing gratitude so feel free to share in the comments.
Affirmation
Each morning is a gift and so I will be thankful for the opportunities it brings.
