Gratitude for Life and Health.
Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer and let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good- Maya Angelou
It is the end of another week and my question to you is what are you grateful for?
You might have started the week with a long to do and you might have accomplished all or not everything on this list. Heck you might not even have completed anything yet and that is ok because you know what it’s not only the big wins that need recognition. What we tend to forget is the power it takes for us to show up everyday for ourselves and that is something to be proud of.
This week I am grateful for great health, life and my courage to show up for me. If you have followed the news the last week you’d have heard of the five very rich people who passed in the submarine.
I don’t listen to the news but for some reason I caught this as I was updating my playlist on YouTube. I read a bit into it and as I logged off I couldn’t help but wonder how fragile life is and how we all can lose it in a blink of an eye regardless of our social status. It once again humbled me to know that my health and life was much precious than anything that was going on for me. Who would have thought that among the 160,000 or so people that pass everyday these five very rich people all will on the exact same day.
That made all the things I was currently worrying about pale in comparison to what I had read. These men had all the money in the world but couldn’t buy a health or a second life. I was then very very grateful for I had great health and my life. Everyday I get to spend here on earth with my loved ones even with bad experiences is a Blessing. So on that Friday after a long work week I decided to join some friends who were celebrating a work anniversary and in my mind I was celebrating life and the fact that I am still here and healthy. These days appreciating the little things we mostly take for granted has become very dear to me for I know how much I wish my good health back even when I have a cold or cough.
Now I stop to smell the flowers and ripened fruits bursting with flavour and thank God for the fact that I have well functioning senses. I say thank you as I do the dishes because I have clean water running through my tap and I can switch between hot and cold when I want. I say thank you as I get in my car to drive somewhere and back for I am blessed with my own means of transportation and I am divinely protected on the roads. When I turn on my laptop or pick the phone I say thank you because I can do my work with ease and have countless conversations with my family even when we are miles apart. When it’s time for me to retire for the day I sit for a while think my day through and say thank you for all that I have experienced. Everything that has brought me to that moment and the amazing support system I have in my life.
Nothing in life is a given, apart from death and none of us know when it will be our turn but when we are here, alive and healthy this is reason to be grateful for.
So let me end with my question from the beginning of this - what are you grateful for now?
Affirmation: Thank You for a new day and a new canvas for my life.
