Gratitude for Peace
I am so grateful and blessed in so many ways. I choose to see the good in my life no matter what’s going on. I know how precious life is and I am thankful for everything. - Idil Ahmed
This week I had a number of topics to write on in the theme of gratitude but as I sat down, all I could think of was how grateful I am to be living in a country and community where there’s absolute peace and calm. I guess you might have heard of the atrocious acts in Isreal but this isn’t just what is happening, also London, in the past couple of weeks have reported a number of stabbings bringing the death of teenagers to 14 and even the ongoing war in Ukraine. My heart sinks at the thought of these and I am so saddened that humankind is doing this to each other, so as I think of things to be grateful of today all I can think of is just this one thing - PEACE.
I know there are other places and situations and I acknowledge them all, sending much love and healing to each person caught in the middle of these. I am so blessed I’m able to go to bed safe and sound not worrying about what will happen during the night or if my house is going to be intact by the time I wake up. I can walk down the street in the dark not fearing for my life as I did this morning for my 5:00am gym session. Yes autumn is finally here and so the skys are still very dark at 5:00am and I even had a cyclist greet me with a cheerful good morning as they cycled by. Yes, I had nothing to be afraid of on my 15 minute walk to the gym.
This makes me think of how much I and we all can take for granted, for this freedom that I am enjoying isn’t a given for everyone and so as we end the week today, I want to encourage each one of us to first of all say a prayer/ send some positive and healing wishes to people living in places and situations where they fear for their lives. Secondly, let’s be kind to one another. It doesn’t really take that much, that smile, opening of a door, offering to pick up some groceries for that elderly person who can’t. Literally anything you and I can do to help or make someones’s day, will enrich both our lives but take not a pound of flesh from us.
Lastly, really show gratitude for the peace and calm you are enjoying right now, yes you may be going through stuff and things might be chaotic right now but if you are not worrying about the safety of your life or that of your loved ones - stop, take a breath and say a thank you for you are more blessed than you think.
Affirmation: Today I am grateful for the gift of life.
