Lesson 10 In the Science of Getting Rich: Further Use of the Will
You cannot retain a true and clear vision of wealth if you are constantly Turing your attention to opposing pictures, whether they be external or imaginary - W. D. Wattles
In last week's newsletter we studied The Use of the Will and how the Will is a powerful mental faculty which if harnessed properly can help each and everyone of us overcome challenges, maintain focus, and attract the circumstances necessary for achieving our goals of wealth and success. This is vital in acquiring wealth, and in this week’s newsletter we continue on this topic - the Further Use the Will, where the author emphasises on using our Will further to persistently maintain focus, think on the things we desire rather than dislike and take continuous action. I will explore the key points I found in this chapter in three points below, namely:
Maintaining a positive mental attitude
This point goes hand in hand with one of the famous natural laws and what we know as the Law of Attraction (LOA) in the sense that whatever you predominantly think about is what you Weill end up achieving. With regard to this the author encourages us to have the positive mindset regardless of circumstances. This might be hard and it definitely is because sometimes our reality makes believing that we too can and will have our breakthrough a challenge, when we keep on getting rejected over and over again, being passed over for promotions over and over again or hitting roadblocks in our business at every turn. However, by the law of attraction our energy flows where our attention goes, so in our quest for a richer and fuller life we have to focus our energy and attention on the things we desire.
A couple of months back when I was in the process of launching my second business and running behind schedule I started thinking about all the things that could go wrong. Mainly because of my being behind schedule but then I came across a manifestation meditation in which I had to think of one specific goal I wanted to achieve, then embody the feeling of having the goal achieved and then being grateful for that goal. I meditated on this for a good 30 plus days, this was how I primed myself each morning before starting my day and sometimes even before bed. Seeing and feeling myself with my desired goal and within those 30 days things started falling into place and my business was launched. I used this same meditation for securing customers and then within 5 days of launching I had over 15 sales in a day. This brings me to the next point,
Visualising our success and thinking on things that we desire
Wanting success without knowing what, where and how it feels and looks like is pointless that is why the author encourages us to use our Will to visualise our success. As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, visualisation is putting things in order and serving it to God/Source as we desire it manifested for us. The act of visualisation helps us to get a clear mental picture of what we desire and sometimes through this we are led to the steps to take towards the goal. Through visualisation we persistently try to see the end goal and thus get clearer and clearer on what it is we are working towards.
Visualisation though, mostly involves mental imagery is not only limited to that and that is why in many visualisation techniques we are led to use other senses as in feel, smell, touch, taste and hear. If we struggle to see the pictures but are able to use the other senses to experience the goal achieved that also counts and aids in having a clear idea of the goal. In my previous example with my business and sales, when I meditated on my goal, I most of the time felt into it more than saw into it. I thought of how seeing the sales numbers go up, or telling my family about it felt and every time, unconsciously a smile spread across my lips. I envisioned my success before I physically experienced any of it and as I primed myself with the meditation before the workday started it gave me that extra push to take action even with setbacks and delayed timelines.
Taking immediate and persistent action
Using the Will helps us take action but there is one thing with lack of faith and belief and it is that we tend to procrastinate and overanalyse opportunities. Opportunities come when we take action and we can’t always be certain of the magnitude of opportunities if we don’t act immediately, for the unfoldment of next steps is always in the acting. There is a verse in the bible that goes - The spirit (mind) is willing but the flesh is weak - Matt: 26:41 and I add this because in the further use of the Will, most of the times we must go against what we feel like doing and do what needs to be done. We must keep on taking action even if we don’t feel like it, feel inspired or have all the answers. In this verse, Jesus urged the disciples to persist in keeping awake even though they’d much rather sleep. There are many times in this journey that we will have challenges and our initial thought or reaction will be to give up but Wattles encourages that we use our Will to keep on taking action, course correcting but never giving up.
There is a saying that the darkest hours comes just before the dawn and I have realised and experienced that my breakthroughs and that of many other people always come when we literarily are about to give up. Being able to pick oneself up and keep going time and time again is no small feat but with the power of our will we can do it over and over again because getting rich requires that we have a very clear mental image of what success means to us, then with steadfast faith and purpose, work persistently towards our goal knowing that we are deserved of it if only we think and believe it. My encouragement for the start of this week is for you to begin with a clear mental image of what you really desire and if need be write it down as that always helps in visualisation. Do kindly share in the comments what type of visualisation works for you.
