Lesson 16 In the Science of Getting Rich: Some Cautions, and Concluding Observations
Give no anxious thoughts to possible disasters, obstacles, panics or unfavourable combinations of circumstances;… Wallace D. Wattles
We’ve almost come to the end of our study of this book and in the second to last chapter Wallace D. Wattles cautions us not to fall into the trap of thinking that there is Lack or that our circumstances are controlled by governments and authorities. But rather to adhere to the core principles that have been treated in this book which I will recap again below.
The Power of Thought: The very beginning of this book explains the power of our thoughts and how we as individuals can alter and change our lives with concentrated thought, belief and focus. We are thought the significance of thoughts, emphasizing that one's thoughts and beliefs are critical in achieving wealth. Positive and constructive thinking is a cornerstone of the science of getting rich. Wattles, explores how with a clear idea of what we seek to have and be, we can causes forces beyond our imagination to move in action to create these desires. On our journey to achieving our goals being able to master our thoughts and keeping a focused attention is key to the actions we take and the opportunities that arise.
Avoiding Competitive Thought: We are encouraged to also avoid competition and competitive thoughts as the mind that works on the competitive plane is a mind that lives in lack. Working from a competitive mindset limits our ability to think and be creative and affirms that there is not not enough to go around because resources are limited. Instead, we are urged to find our own personal paths to success by working and thinking in a certain way.
Inspired Action: One other very important principle is taking inspired action. The author underscores that it's not enough to think positively; action is required. We are inspired to act with a clear purpose in our current environments with what we have and a mindset of serving others and creating value.
Gratitude: Finally, the all encompassing but often overlooked principle is gratitude. Though this isn’t a very tangible factor it is, if not the most important factor to getting rich. We are asked to constantly maintain a grateful attitude even if things do not go to plan or on our schedule, and as difficult as this is, it is so true when, in hindsight we look back. One crucial fact is gratitude attracts abundance and so we need not only show gratitude hen things have gone our way but also when things haven’t gone our way because no matter what if we keep the faith and belief we will be given what we desires, was much suited or even better than we asked for.
As we start a new week let’s reflect on what these principles have thought us and how we are incorporating these in our lives if we are. I know doing so takes conscious effort and dedication but if we never start we will never master them and the first step to any form of desired change is starting.
