When Age, Gender or Race Doesn’t Matter
It’s never too late and you are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream.
Happy new week dear friend!
What do you really want? This is a question from a great mentor of mine. How often do we allow how long something will take to manifest or how old we are to start something new to hold us from actually taking action?
The other day as I was reading I came across this statement - It’s never too late to start something new - and in a conversation with my mum after I read that she mentioned something along these lines.
It got me thinking of how I have personally been able to achieve some dreams by neglecting factors such as age, time and gender. One that has been and is always a big factor for me and I guess for a lot of people is thinking of how late or old we are to pursue a dream. It’s all a mindset adjustment.
In 2019 I learnt how to swim in my 30s not because I never had the opportunity to when I was younger but because I was so afraid of water. I had always dreamt of being able to swim and wished I could be like the rest of my family but my fear of water was at that time greater than my why.
So, what made me get over my fears, I finally decided not to be the lady sitting by the pool on holidays anymore and I also had to face my fear of water - admitting and relearning that water in itself is not dangerous and if I worked with it - that is stayed on the shallow side I will be fine.
I made the decision, set a goal, made a plan and took action by September 2019 after 3 months of consistent lessons I was able to swim. Not as an Olympic swimmer but I can now move comfortably in water enjoy a lap or two and not be the lady sitting by the pool on a holiday anymore.
Yes, that was my goal in 2024 I went snorkelling in Greece with my partner. Yes from being afraid of water to snorkelling. My point here is that if I had let the fact that l was now too old to learn how to swim, I would still not be able to swim and see all the beautiful life underwater like most people.
In the conversation with my mum, I listened in admiration as she told me of all the things she wanted to still do at her age and I say in admiration because she’s paid off her house, and furnished it all on a single wage.
A goal she had been working towards for a good five years now, never giving up even when things got tough and she had to work multiple shifts to cope. She did it and she still has many things she wants to achieve.
I thought hard about her dreams because here was a woman born in a different era with much limited possibilities as I currently have but with so much zeal to explore those possibilities now at her disposal, so how can I, being her daughter just let factors such as gender or age stop me from going after my dreams and what I desire?
I got off the phone very excited and scared at the same time as I thought of the dreams I desired to manifest. I have no idea how these will be but I know what it is that I want and I am going after them.
Yes, it can be very scary at times and it should be too for what point is it if that which we desire doesn’t get us excited? If there’s anything I have learnt from my mentor Bob Proctor, it is to be very clear about a big goal that scares me and that which I have no idea how to make happen but to trust God/the Universe to show the way as I take action.
For some of these dreams, most people would say it’s too late or it won’t ever happen for me but I know that what my mind can conceive my mind can achieve so if I am thinking of them I can and will be able to do it if I really want and believe in it.
My thought is, when it comes to setting another goal or pursuing something that other physical factors might discourage I have resorted to asking myself four questions, which I explored in a previous newsletter and if I can answer yes, yes, yes and no to I take action with what I have got and where I am at. The questions are -
Is having, being or doing this going to improve my life?
Is this in alignment with God/Source?
Is being, doing and having this going to help others?
Will this be to the harm of others?
These, once again have and always are a really good help in my decision making and I use them a lot during these times when what I desire has these factors against them.
We need to remember that our ability to do anything (mostly anything) regardless of our age or whatever the factor is, is mostly in our minds and just as Henry Ford put it - if you think you can or if you think you can’t either way you are right.
Unless it is literally impossible for you, my encouragement is whatever you are desiring to achieve you can do it, it might be challenging, scary and seem impossible from where you are at the moment but if you are really clear on what you want and your why you will definitely find a way.
Now my question to you is how late do you think you are to go after your dreams?
